5 Favorites Friday

Friday, August 23, 2013

It's Friday! I'm so ready for the weekend. I have a photography class scheduled this weekend. I plan on washing the cars. We are going to see our favorite cover band, Electric Circus (check them out HERE), at Sambuca 360 at Shops at Legacy. Some church on Sunday, and maybe a little bit of relaxing. Oh, who am I kidding. We rarely sit at home!

Well today is the premier of my new weekly Friday post topic- 5 Favorites Friday. I have REALLY started to slow down and look for what I call "happies" throughout the week. It's SO easy to get caught up in all of the little, annoying, petty things that happen on a daily basis: my Bluetooth disconnecting in the middle of my favorite song, spilling ravioli on my lap at lunch, stepping in water by the fridge with my socks on *BLAH*. I have decided to LOOK for the opportunities to be happy about the small stuff. Here is WHY!

"and WHATEVER you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."  Colossians 3:17

"WHATEVER YOU DO"- Can that be more clear? Need I say more? "WHATEVER"

Incase you didn't quite grasp the concept of 5 Favorites Friday in Colossians:

"Rejoice ALWAYS, pray CONTINUALLY, give thanks in ALL circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5: 16-18

ALWAYS,CONTINUALLY,ALL- un-ending rejoicing, consistent in prayer, non selective in thanks.

When I'm doing something or using something, that for just a minute I think: "man, love me some____", I'm taking note. Bringing you some of the little things that I said, "Thank You, Lord" for this week!

5 Favorites Friday- 08-23-13

1. Goldfish- Simple little cheese crackers made for a yummy, satisfying, hit-the-spot snack several times for me this week
2. Music (When I'm Gone "CUPS" By: Anna Kendrick)- Sometimes I just want to open the sun roof, and jam out to a feel good. This week, my jam has been "cups". It just gets me groov'in (so 70's, I know I know)
3. Sunglasses (aviators)- I don't know if you have been in the Texas sun lately, or ever for that matter, but if you have, you can understand why my blue eyes are thankful for these puppies. I left my Jackie O sunglasses at home one morning and my eyes were watering like it was allergy season. I found my aviators in my back up, sunglass compartment in the car, and said "THANK YOU, JESUS, I can SEE!" ** Scary thing is I drove for 5 minutes without them, and I COULDN'T see. lol WATCH OUT! My driving angel must have been behind the wheel ;)
4. bareMinerals "Well-Rested"- This is  my secrete "mommy" weapon. If I could only take one thing on a deserted island, THIS WOULD BE IT! (probably not, but ...) This is the secrete to covering up the dark circles under my eyes from late night photo editing. Since I rarely go to bed before 1 am, I'm pretty much dependent on this $18.00 jar of powder. You can find it Ulta: HERE
5. Bobby pins- Oh, such a small small thing, with such big big powers. I was throwing my hair up in a bun (like I do 5 out of 7 days a week because I'm lazy, and would rather sleep than do my hair) and I was thinking, "MAN, what would I do without bobby pins? How did people without them ever get their hair to stay how they wanted? How much does it cost to make one bobby pin? How much do I pay for bobby pins? How did people in pioneer days put their hair up? Did they have rubber bands back then?"... you get the point. *Your welcome for that glimpse inside my head on a daily basis*
Overall- this week I have began the LONG journey of drawing attention to the small "happies", and on Friday's I'm going to bring them to YOU. Join me in recognizing the little things. Grab a notebook, or jot them down in a notes APP on your oh-so-smart phone. You'll be surprised how many little things you have to be thankful for.
As Solomon says in my all time favorite book of the bible: "This is what I have observed to be good: that it is appropriate for a person to eat, to drink, and to find satisfaction in their toilsome labor under the sun during the few days of life God has given them- for this is their lot. Moreover, when God gives someone wealth and possession, and the ability to enjoy them, to accept their lot and be happy in their toil- this is a gift of God. They seldom reflect on the days of their life, because God keeps them occupied with gladness of heart." Ecclesiastes 5:18
...and that, my Dear, was all she wrote...
