Five Minute Friday

Friday, February 7, 2014

Today I'm joining a link up with Lisa-Jo Baker's FMF Group.
Every Friday she has a topic up. For 5 minutes flat the challenge is to write freely about that topic.
"Unscripted. Unedited. Real."

Five Minute Friday

Five Minute Friday
Topic: WRITE

Ready, Set, GO (11:50 am)

Writing? Ha! I laugh, because the desire to write is so natural to me, it almost burns in me when I can't express what I feel. I have been writing since I could write. Never professionally, but always passionately.

I took Creative Writing in high school. It was by far my favorite High School Experience. Something about being GIVEN a topic, assignment, challenge... took my writing so far beyond my tiny perspective on my world. I was challenged. I love a challenge.

In the real world, I don't have someone assigning me a topic to explore. I rely solely on my own experiences, observations, and emotions to create read worthy material. It's a different type of challenge. Being a good writer depends not only on being able to express yourself through writing, but also on your ability to see the world around you in a new light, and transform it into something impactful for a reader. To bring MEANING to something, that otherwise would be just a fleeting thought or routine experience, to take a TINY feeling and turn it into something of self discovery, and motivation. To MOVE people. To STIR emotions. To INSPIRE actions.

Maybe I'm more creatively challenged now than I ever thought I was.
