The Power of Storytelling: Our Everyday Life For Real | Lifestyle Photography McKinney, Texas

Wednesday, July 29, 2015

I'm always telling people about my love for Lifestyle photography and storytelling. Most people just look at me with a blank stare, or text back "what is that?"

A few weeks ago I wrote a post on what lifestyle photography is and why it's important over on my business blog. You can check it out: here

It's one thing to talk about something, but putting it in action is another.

I have been slowly gathering different "stories" about my family as part of a project I'm working on, and I thought I would share my most recent.

As some of you who follow me on Facebook know, our kiddos are obsessed with their swing set. It's one of those things that you figure after a few days of fun, they would be over it, but that's not the case with these outdoor lovin kids.

Caroline asks almost everyday to go play out in the backyard, and we rarely say "no".
Hudson loves it too. Since he's clearly too big for his baby swing inside now, his outdoor swing is so relaxing for him in the evenings, sometimes he even starts to fall asleep!

This year Caroline has learned how to swing herself, which has been both awesome and kinda sad. She can go out and play whenever without needing a "boost", but it's crazy the independent girl she has become. There are few things that she really NEEDS help with on a daily basis, and this momma is kinda sad about that.

We love being outside as a family, and we spend a lot of time out there. Whether it be in the back yard swinging and playing soccer, or in the front checking out the latest in Caroline's rock collection, these are our summer nights. Does it get any better than this????

N. Little Rock Quicktrip

Wednesday, July 1, 2015

A few weekends ago, we made a trip up to North Little Rock to visit Ryan's sister and family, and attend some good friends' wedding.

They just built a new home, and we had fun breaking in the guest quarters!

Hudson is such a great traveler (Just Like His Sister!)

Their family is full of two early risers, so Hudson and I enjoyed having some company early in the morning to play! Also, I may have been *slightly* obsessed with her fun rug!!

Mo the Boston Terrier was all about the camera. It's like she seriously wanted her picture taken, so who was I to deny her some lens time??

We went to lunch downtown, after an...interesting trolley ride that involved old people, being stranded on a bridge, and ended with Trip hollering at people! haha.
Didn't have my good camera, but snapped a few pics from lunch on Ryan's iPhone... proof I was there too!

It stormed really bad part of the way home, which caused the drive to take FOR. EV. ER.

Overall, we LOVE our trips to visit family. Our kiddos don't get to see their cousins near enough, but we try hard get them together as much as possible. So for now...

PS: I had to sneak in a picture of them relaxing on Saturday afternoon. I said I wouldn't post any (but they are so sweet!)

Hudson's World

Thursday, June 18, 2015

The other day Hudson was crawling around the floor, and kept stopping and putting pieces of grass him his mouth. I would take it away, and then search the floor for any remaining pieces. I would find one or none, and move on. Next thing I know, he would have another blade in his hands!

I couldn't see the little tiny things he was looking at. It made me wonder what the world looks like from his point of view, so I took a little time this week to get on his level.

I love his world!

Little Fingers &

Little Toes

Perspective is everything! If you have kids or grandkiddos, try this exercise.
1. Take your Camera or Iphone or whatever you've got and set it on the floor.
2. Layout on your stomach so you are in the same "zone" as your little one.
3. Shoot away. Image quality may not be the best (we find more shadows the lower we go), but the perspective can be a refreshing spin on your at home photography.

Sweet Summa Time

Tuesday, June 16, 2015

Working full time, I rarely ever get a day off in the middle of summer just to be at home with my babies unless we are on vacation.

Last Friday the kid's school was closed for teacher development before summer, which practically forced me to use PTO and take the day off. While it does limit my "vacation" time for the year, it was so incredibly refreshing just to spend a day, enjoying the sun, to kick off summer.
We went to Chick-Fil-A and spent the rest of the day poolside.

Not great quality, but I just loved her in this pic!

Don't mind the pink...he's using sister's old exersaucer...and loves it! haha

Make time for a day like this with your kiddos this summer. It's therapeutic.
